If your looking for a romantic mountain rental in NC that offers mountain bike riding, horse back riding trails, kayaking, hiking, waterfalls, fly fishing, trout fishing, all on the Wilson Creek or on Johns River, then the Brown Mountain Lodge is for you. The Brown Mountain Lodge is located in the Grandfather Ranger district in Caldwell County.

The Brown Mountain Lodge rental offers a four horse barn, a working twelve foot water wheel, a 3 bedroom 2 bath vacation home with all of the amenities of home including a beautiful deck, with a fireplace and a propane grill, bonfire pit, horseshoes, and hammock for relaxing. The Lodge overlooks a stream with small waterfalls and is surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest. We are in a scenic and secluded area and its roughly 10-15 miles by state maintained gravel roads to get to most any kind of commercialization such as Blowing Rock. We have written maps with the primarily paved road routes as well in the home. We've included pictures on our written directions part of our web site so you can see the roads.

Within a short distance is Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, the Linn Cove Viaduct, Boone, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the NC Snow Ski slopes. Shopping in Blowing Rock and Boone are 45 minutes away. Brown Mountain is known for its mysterious Brown Mountain lights, a phenomenon that is still unexplained but told about in local folklore.

The Harper Creek falls and Linville Falls are very close to the Brown Mountain Lodge and are reasonable hiking for those who are into the natural beauty of the NC mountains. There are also several short hikes to waterfalls located off of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The Wilson Creek is stocked yearly with brown and rainbow trout and the trout fishermen flock to the river yearly. Fly fishing is particularly good along the lower half of the Wilson Creek gorge. Wilson Creek is also enjoyed by sunbathers and kayakers looking for pristine white water or flat water kayaking. The Johns River is another excellent flat water paddling river for river kayaks.

Brown Mountain is a favorite horse back riding destination for the ease of getting to the location and the condition of the trails. There are trails that offer the horse rider short and long rides with views of Grandfather and Grandmother mountains as well as the Wilson Creek Gorge.

Mountain Biking in the area has become very popular with several roads and trails that are yearly mountain bike events. The mountain bike roads vary from single track to fire safety roads to dirt and paved roads, with varying degrees of difficulty.

Brown Mountain also has one of the very few Off Road Vehicle Parks in NC that is made exclusively for ATV's and dirt bikes. The park is located only thirty minutes from the Lodge.
